WC 2018 - Tunisia vs. England betting tips, prediction and match preview
England will face Tunisia for their opening match of a World Cup - 20 years after doing so in the 1998 finals in France. England 's manager Gareth Southgate was in the squad that won 2-0 over the north African nation, and while a similarly comfortable win is expected here, nothing can be taken for granted.
This is probably the most under-hyped English team heading into a major competition and four years on from their humiliating loss to Iceland at Euro 2016, a team that brings hope with less expectation is heading to the World Cup for the Premier League owners.
Tunisia are not a team that fear any opponent and they will certainly be tricky for the English men.
Tunisia showed in their last friendly match that they can soak up pressure as they almost held Spain to a goalless draw before Iago Aspas rescued the Spaniards in the dying minutes.
As a matter of fact, Tunisia's loss to Spain was the 1st time the Tunisians tasted defeat in over a year – they have won 5 and drawn 4 matches in that period of time.
Tunisia were unbeaten in the World Cup qualifiers, so England will be doing themselves a world of good by showing enough respect to the North Africans.
England seem well prepared for this competition though and Gareth Southgate has done a good job of teaching the team how to keep things tight at the back.
England showed they can hold off teams by the way they defeated Costa Rica and Nigeria and their fans would be hoping they can bring that pre-tournament form with them to the World Cup in Russia.
England are favourites to win their opening group match however the Africans pose a real threat and it will certainly not be easy.
Harry Kane is eager to go for the England squad, with the Tottenham hotshot back to full fitness after sustaining an injury against Bournemouth back in March.
Wabhi Khazri is Tunisia’s best hope of troubling England’s backline, with the Rennes forward having an international strike rate of 0.33 per match.
A close call? 7 of England’s last 8 matches have produced under 2.5 goals.
Tunisia are without a clean sheet in 3 matches.
England’s competitive record against African teams is: W2, D3, L0.
Tunisia’s historical competitive record on European soil reads: W0, D2, L4.
